What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, safe and deeply relaxing ancient hands-on healing therapy. A Reiki practitioner channels the Reiki energy through their hands, promoting healing, strengthening the immune system, reducing stress, releasing blocked energies and helping to release toxins.

The word ‘Reiki’ is Japanese for ‘Universal Life Force Energy’ and is pronounced 'Ray Key‘

Reiki is not a religious practice, just a very effective ancient method of healing.

When receiving a Reiki treatment, you lie comfortably, fully clothed, on a treatment couch with a blanket over you. If you are unable to lie down, the treatment can be done while you are sitting relaxed in a chair.

The practitioner then places their hands on you at different points around your body, focusing on the main energy points, which are known as ‘Chakras'. These are linked with the body’s endocrine system and  there are seven of these areas located down the centre of your body (see Diagram A).

It is normal to feel warmth or sometimes tingling as the energy flows into and through you.

Each treatment takes about an hour and is deeply relaxing, calming and comforting. It brings a sense of peace and well-being and encourages the body’s natural ability to heal. Reiki is non-manipulative and non-invasive and reduces stress, pain and inflammation. The Reiki energy stimulates the immune system and supports all other forms of healing, including medical treatment, by bringing your body to a place of balance where healing can occur.

Reiki supports your body in releasing physical and emotional imbalances and rebalances your Chakra system, dispersing the negativity in your body. Your body absorbs the amount of energy it requires and the energy remains effective for hours, often days after the treatment.

You can also Boost your Business Performance with Reiki

Feeling great and having a positive approach to making your business a success start with personal well-being. You might have a fabulous product or service, but if you are not feeling buoyant and motivated, you will find it hard to convince potential customers they should do business with you.  As an experienced Business Development Specialist and Reiki practitioner, Debbie understands and can show you how this ancient Japanese therapy can significantly boost your business performance.

What You Might Experience When Receiving a Reiki Treatment

Everyone is different so there are a number of things you might experience during your treatment.

You might:

• Want to remain silent or to talk
• Fall asleep
• Experience a variety of sensations such as deep relaxation, comfort, heat, cold, tingling, pressure, lightness or heaviness, or you may not experience any sensations at all
• See a variety of colours as each Chakra or main energy point in your body is worked on
• Remember emotions or things from the past

After Your Treatment

Reiki supports your body to function more efficiently which may influence the way food, drink and medication affect you. If you are on medication and notice any changes, please consult your medical doctor (the only person qualified to make any changes to your medication). Your body will be releasing toxins, so you may experience such symptoms as your nose running or needing to use the toilet more often. You should drink plenty of water and refrain from eating red meat or drinking alcohol for a few days after your treatment.

How Many Treatments Will You Need?

If you normally feel well and are using Reiki as a preventative maintenance treatment, then a treatment once a week or once a month may be sufficient. It all depends on how well you want to support your body to release its imbalances or to treat a specific condition or illness.

The History of Reiki

It is thought that the Tibetan monks and others practised Reiki several thousand years ago. The technique was re-discovered by Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist scholar and monk in the late 1800’s. He developed the healing and created a way of teaching Reiki so that others could benefit from this gentle healing method.

The Five Reiki Principles

Just for today – I will not worry

Just for today – I will not get angry

Just for today – I will be grateful

Just for today – I will do my work honestly

Just for today – I will show love and respect to every living thing
